Everything We Know So Far About the Children of Blood and Bone Movie

If you haven’t read Tomi Adeyemi’s Children of Blood and Bone yet, now is the perfect time to update your TBR list. For those of you who don’t know the story, here is the book synopsis from the publisher, Henry Holt and Company:

In one of the biggest young adult novel publishing deals to date, Tomi Adeyemi accepted a seven-figure deal from Macmillan

Children’s Publishing Group. Shortly after, Fox 2000 bought the film rights before the first book was even released. Since then, Disney’s acquisition of Fox has led to the film being helmed by Lucasfilm.

In interviews, Tomi Adeyemi has described her book as “an allegory for the modern black experience"and discussed how her Nigerian-American heritage has impacted her work as a writer. Only twenty-four when her first novel was published, Adeyemi was ecstatic to give young readers characters they could see themselves in and to show that authors could look like them. And with her movie deal and second novel in the series recently released, the best-selling, Hugo award-winning author is able to reach an even wider audience than before. This year, Adeyemi was named on Forbes 30 Under 30 list, not only for her accomplishments as an author, but also for the inspiring work she has done as a writer to encourage others. Also on her impressive list of achievements is her honors degree in English literature from Harvard University and a fellowship she received to study West African mythology and culture in Brazil.

Rick Famuyiwa is currently set to direct the Children of Blood and Bone adaptation. Nigerian-American Famuyiwa directed feature films such as Dope and Brown Sugar, as well as episodes of The Mandalorian.

The script of the Children of Blood and Bone is in the capable hands of screenwriter Kay Oyegun. In addition to writing episodes of the Emmy award-winning show This Is Us, Oyegun has also written Queen Sugar and A Luv Tale: The Series, producing and directing the latter as well.

President of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, is currently attached as one of the producers and has said she’s working in tangent with Emma Watts, chairman of 20th Century Fox. Also on the film is Executive Producer John Fischer, known for co-producing The Hate U Give, along with fellow producer Isaac Klausner. Karen Rosenfelt, producer of over twenty-five other projects including The Book Thief, as well as the screenwriter of Life of Pi, David Magee, are also attached to the Children of Blood and Bone movie adaptation.
