Temuera Morrison Will Return As Boba Fett For Mandalorian Season 2

Boba Fett is back! The Hollywood Reporter disclosed that Temuera Morrison has joined the cast of The Mandalorian season 2. Morrison previously portrayed Boba Fett's father, Jango Fett, in the movie Attack of the Clones.

 

The character of Boba Fett made his Star Wars franchise debut in The Empire Strikes Back (1980). Though he did not have much dialogue, Boba Fett's mysterious air and appearance boosted his status as an instant fan favorite. He fell in the sarlacc pit in Return of the Jedi. 

That was not the end of the bounty hunter. His story continued to grow in non-film content developed after the original three films. The Star Wars Expanded Universe, now called Star Wars Legends, revealed that he survived the pit and went on to have many other adventures. 

Then Lucasfilm declared that non-film content produced prior to April of 2014 was noncanon. There was further confusion because a few Star Wars Legends storylines had been plucked back into canon. This left Boba Fett's fate murky at best. Would fans get to see a live-action Boba Fett ever again?

There have been attempts to bring Boba Fett back over the years. Notably to date, there were rumors of a feature-length Boba Fett movie led by Josh Trank. There was also talk of a James Mangold-directed spinoff, which likewise did not materialize. Neither project moved forward for various reasons. 

It took a multi-genre fan favorite, Jon Favreau, to create the perfect setting. The Mandalorian series on the Disney+ platform was initially created by Favreau so that he could delve into characters like Boba Fett. Fans may rest easy knowing that Favreau is behind this character's appearance in Season 2. 

The upcoming season of The Mandalorian was already packed full of excitement with previous announcements of Rosario Dawson and Michael Biehn joining the cast. Now with the promise of Boba Fett and none other than Temuera Morrison portraying him, October 2020 cannot get here fast enough.
