New Zealand filmmaker and Academy award winner Taika Waititi was just confirmed to direct the next new Star Wars film.
Waititi's most recent credits are Jojo Rabbit, The Mandalorian (episode 8), and Thor: Ragnarok. He also has acting credits, including Avengers: Endgame and the hit cult show Rick and Morty. Mihai Malaimare (who worked with Waititi as a cinematographer on JoJo Rabbit) says,
" I knew from all the other movies that Taika did how good he is with young actors, but just watching Roman [Griffin Davis], and then Thomasin [McKenzie] work, that was something that pretty much blew my mind. The level of commitment was amazing for me, and the whole process that Taika has, working with young actors, is really amazing. It’s a unique experience."
