The Falcon has been evolving as a prominent hero in the mainstream
ever since he made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in 2014’s
Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Portrayed by Anthony Mackie, the character Sam Wilson has become more
popular among movie-goers over the years. His journey culminated in
the events of Avengers: Endgame,
where we saw passing
of the Captain America shield from Steve Rogers to Sam Wilson. While
he may continue Cap’s legacy, it seems that we have not seen the
last of The Falcon mantle, as evidenced by the mere title of the
upcoming Disney+ series
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Picking
up after the events of last
year’s momentous
event film Avengers: Endgame,
this series was originally slated to be released in early fall 2020.
However, the production has seen some challenges along the way. Even
before the pandemic was as big of a concern as it became, a Puetro
Rico shoot was canceled due to earthquakes in the area. The
show has been delayed to a currently unknown release date. It
seems like tough luck for the first of the Disney+ shows that were to
tie in heavily with the films.
Regardless, fans are still eagerly awaiting the series, wanting to
see where Bucky and Sam go next now that Steve Rogers is gone.
While
it may become time before we see a substantial amount of visuals
from the series, we now have a look at what The Falcon’s suit will
look like. This comes from the packaging of a Hot Wheels car of all
places. Themed around The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,
the packaging art depicts The Falcon with a sleeker outfit. The
differences may not stand out much to casual viewers of the films,
but a side-by-side comparison would show just how different they are
from each other. Some may even say that this new suit is more comic
book accurate, which is sure to please those who may have been
waiting for a suit like this one. Though early concept art for The
Falcon’s look had come out in November 2019, this is a more
photorealistic look, giving fans a better idea of what to expect.
Given
that this was included in the merchandising, it seems very likely
that this suit will be featured prominently. When Steve Rogers gave
Sam Wilson the shield, fans may have expected that Wilson would have
gotten a Captain America suit, or at least started using the shield,
right away. Now, we are left speculating just how long it may take
for him to truly don the Captain America name. Given the presence of
U.S. agent in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,
it seems very possible that the debate over who should get to replace
Captain America may be a major focus. This may be akin to how Matt
Murdock did not wear his classic red outfit for almost all of
Daredevil season 1. It
makes sense that there would be all of these steps in between and
that it would not necessarily be a smooth transition.
Whatever
ends up happening in the Disney+ show, Marvel fans will surely tune
in to see their familiar favorites. Perhaps future merchandising
could provide more hints regarding the series, if we do not get more
information from elsewhere before then. Merchandising
may not always be precisely reflective of what ends up in the final
product, but it can certainly leave bread crumbs for the fans to
follow. Even if the toys are
not necessarily one’s forte, a close examination may cue someone in
on what is to come in the near future.
