Speculation Regarding New Character In Marvel's Upcoming 'Hawkeye' Show Disney+

Heartbreaking news came just a few days ago when Marvel announced that they had stopped production on all of their Disney+ shows due to COVID-19.

With release dates for Marvel's upcoming films and TV shows up in the air, Marvel fans are eager for any bit of news we can obtain. It is an uncertain time for film and TV alike, but luckily, little bits and pieces of information are coming out every day, giving us clues as to what we can see in the upcoming shows, leaving plenty of room for speculation and theorizing.

So far, all we know about the Hawkeye Disney+ series is that it centers around Clint Barton and Kate Bishop, Clint's protégé. The logo, which was revealed at last year's SDCC, points toward the Matt Fraction Hawkeye run as a source of inspiration for the series. Concept art has been released, but we do not have any official images yet, and therefore, we really know nothing about the plot or other characters apart from our main heroes.

However, it seems that casting is underway, as revealed through a cast listing found by The Illuminerdi

The cast listing is for a character currently called "Arek," listed as: male, Eastern European, 20's to early 30's, appearing in 4-5 episodes.

Obviously, "Arek" is not the character's actual name and is merely a cover for the cast listing, but we can use the other information to begin making predictions about which character from the comics this may be.

The character is younger than Clint Barton but older than Kate Bishop, Eastern European, and clearly will have a significantly large role in the show. Since we already know that Clint and Kate are the two main protagonists, we can predict that this character is either a significant supporting character to the lead duo, or might possibly be the series' key antagonist.

Matt Fraction's run points to some exciting options for a potential villain in the series. Two possible antagonists are: Kazimierz Kazimierczak and Ivan Banionis.

Kazimierz, using the alias "The Clown," is an assassin who is hired by a gang called the Draculas to kill Hawkeye. Ivan Banionis is a member of said gang and also the landlord of the building at which Clint stays. Kazimierz seems like a more likely fit, as he is both Eastern European and fits the age range, while Banionis is definitely older, but either character could potentially make an appearance.

Directors Bert and Bertie (from Amazon's Troop Zero) and Rhys Thomas (director of Comrade Detective and John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch) confirmed that production is beginning again in the coming weeks, which means that we will hopefully be getting more information soon.

As far as when we can expect to see more Marvel Cinematic Universe content in the film and television realm, we have some dates, but of course, everything is subject to change. Unfortunately, while The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was set to be the first Marvel Disney+ show to premiere in August of 2020, it has been delayed without another release date. That means the next Marvel project we should expect to see on the screen is the Hulu series Helstrom, which is set for October 16. As far as films go, Black Widow is currently set to be released on November 6. With movie theaters still closed across the US, it is difficult to predict when the industry may kick back into gear and whether this date will hold.

Whenever it is that we get new Marvel content, at least we have plenty to look forward to. This latest news about the Hawkeye series is just one announcement that we hope will lead to many more, especially given the multiple Disney+ series that Marvel has planned.
