We Were All Told Baby Yoda's Name And Nobody Listened

It was just last week that I wrote an article about why Baby Yoda's name isn't Baby Yoda, recounting the many reasons myself and others around the internet thought of it. I also mentioned we hadn't learned his name and likely wouldn't for a while, only for the article I wrote on Thursday to be rendered moot by a reveal the following Friday. But it seems that wasn't the first time his name circulated around the internet, as we actually learned it a while ago, and most people instead just didn't listen or discredited the source as it wasn't an official channel.

Since his debut, the name Baby Yoda has been commonplace around the internet and basically everywhere except official merchandise and mentions, which always referred to him as The Child or The Asset depending on the context. For quite some time, many of us, myself included, were wondering if he was ever going to get an official name, whether it be one given to him by our titular hero or one that existed before. It may be dangerous for me to go out on a ledge again right after it blew up on me, but I have a feeling the name Baby Yoda is going to be sticking around for a while yet, regardless of this new revelation.

Ever since Friday, the internet has been flooded with news and reactions to Baby Yoda's new name, which is Grogu if you've somehow managed to avoid the news flooding all sources over the weekend. Funnily enough, it wasn't the first time this name has popped up, however. A couple months back, this news actually broke on Reddit via user Denim__Dan, who claimed to have a friend with a relative working on The Mandalorian and revealed the name to us all. Many discredited the news as another uncle who works for Nintendo rumor that circulated the playgrounds when we were young, but it seems that we shouldn't have been so quick to discredit the news. Roughly two months have passed and it seems that Denim__Dan was actually onto something when they announced Grogu as the name given to the lovable, green alien.

It's understandable how leaks like this can be discredited so frequently, since it seems everyone and their dog wants to be the one to leak new news, but this one was actually factual. The comments on his post were largely contradictory or dismissive, prompting the user to make an edit saying, for a second time, to take the news with a grain of salt, only to be proven right and for people's attitude to switch pretty quickly.

The reactions to the new name has been all over the place. Some people are glad to hear the new name, while some are not happy at all. Regardless of where you sit on it, it is nice to have some new information on the character, since it came with some rather large story elements of their background as well. We now know his Force abilities were actually taught, since he was at the temple on Coruscant during the infamous Order 66 event. We know he was taken away and that he views our hero, Din Djarin, as family. It seems that, despite all the new information, our lovable duo aren't going to split soon since Grogu doesn't want to leave Din.

I, for one, am glad that we have more information on the mysterious little guy, but am excited to see that our team still not separating. Only time will tell what will come next for the both of them, but with more information about both of them being revealed this season, it'll be interesting to see if they can keep up the exciting pace they've been on as of late.
