These are confusing and speculative times for Marvel fans. While Spider-Man: No Way Home was both a box office and positively reviewed success, the Sony and Marvel follow up of Morbius has mostly been neither.  The post-credit scenes of Morbius have left many viewers very confused. Let’s dive into what happens, and what the scenes could mean for the future of the MCU or Sony-Verse. Be aware that going forward there will be spoilers for Morbius.

One positive of the post-credit scenes are that they include the iconic Michael Keaton. Keaton is back in the role of Adrian Toomes AKA The Vulture. We last saw him jailed for his crimes in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and this is where we find him in Morbius. Now though, Toomes is transported to the universe that Morbius is set in via the purple rift we saw Doctor Strange conquer in Spider-Man: No Way Home.  Toomes shows up in a jail cell in this universe but is shortly set free due to there being no record of him or his crimes. Are you confused yet?  Let’s jump into the second post-credit scene.

This scene also involves Toomes.  Here Michael Keatons character meets up with Jared Letos Michael Morbius- in a mechanical Vulture costume. Toomes did not have a Vulture suit when he crossed over via the purple rift. This has left everyone wondering where the suit came from.

While in the MCU, the Vulture suit was made from Chitauri-Avengers battle fragments, the suit here does seem slightly different.  The director of Morbius, Daniel Espinosa, had gone on record to confirm it is not quite the same suit. He said: "If you look closely, you will see it is not quite the same suit as Homecoming. He is a resourceful guy."

So where could the resourceful Toomes have come up with his new Vulture suit?  One possibility is a Tony Stark variant. While No Way Home let fans know that the Avengers do not exist in Tobey or Andrews Spider-Verse, that does not mean that the characters who make up the Avengers do not exist. The Avengers team just may not be formed yet. Adrien Toomes could have easily made his new suit from salvaged Stark Tech, just as he did from salvaged Chitauri tech. There’s even been a Superior Iron Man run in the comics, which is a character some have speculated will show up in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where Tonys Superior armor was partly made from a Symbiote. This would tie in Venom and give the Sony-verse somewhat of a narrative.

While it may just be wishful thinking, it is a plausible plot point for Tony Stark to exist in this Sony-Verse, and for villains to exist from Stark and his tech just as they do in the MCU. It seems that Sony is trying to build toward a Sinister Six team, and fans have been trying to figure out who that may involve. Tony Stark existing here could also mean other characters related to him could exist. Variants of Justin Hammer, Quentin Beck AKA Mysterio, James Rhodes, even Obadiah Stane or his son Ezekiel would be welcome additions to the Sony-Verse. Possibilities for the team that Adrian Toomes and Michael Morbius are starting include Venom, Carnage, Scorpion and Shocker from Spider-Man: Homecoming.  The team could also include characters from Sonys upcoming Kraven and Madame Web movies, such as Kraven and Chameleon. For now we eagerly await Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in just a few weeks, and Sonys Kraven the Hunter may hopefully give us some more answers in February.
